Emma Togwell is living the dream as a self confessed fashion obsessed, yoga loving hippie, residing by the sea. As a stylist and PR for Inscripture Jewellery, Emma brings an edit of her coastal lifestyle on her Instagram page @_.s.a.s.h._ and blog Salty Air Sunkissed Hair. We caught up with her on Lockdown style, fragrance favourites and 90s memories.
Yogi Footwear: Describe your personal style:
My personal style tends to be quite eclectic. It can depend on how I’m feeling on the day and the weather! During the summer months I tend to embrace my inner hippie and choose bohemian dresses, kimonos and big Sunnies where possible! I also love the simplicity of a white shirt with a pair of Levi’s accessorised with layers of jewellery and a statement lip. That’s my default look if I’m having a wardrobe mental block!
Yogi Footwear: What was the first item of clothing you ever bought for yourself?
The first item of clothing I ever bought myself was a bubblegum pink T shirt by the brand Chipie from a shop called Jakks on The Roman Road, East London, one of my favourite shopping destinations back then!
Yogi Footwear: Any faux-pas you'd rather forget...?
My biggest faux pas was a dreadful gold top and skirt by Stirling Cooper which I wore with a long black coat from Morgan and a purple lip!! Awful!
Yogi Footwear: What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought, clothing-wise?
Most expensive item would probably be my Aquascutum trench coat. A perfect classic piece to pull out season after season
Yogi Footwear: How do you style your Yogi shoes?
I love to style my Yogis with a pretty maxi dress, adding a little edge to toughen them up.
Yogi Footwear: What do your Yogi shoes say about you?
My
Yogis show I’m a girl on the go and whilst absolutely obsessed with fashion I can’t be running around in heels all day. My Yogis prove you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort. They are the perfect everyday piece.
Yogi Footwear: Yogi was born in the 90s, what were you doing, what were you wearing and what were you listening to back in the day?
Ah the 90s all those memories and thankfully no social media!! Well for most of the 90s I was in education. Working a Saturday job in Graham Webb hairdressers in Lee Green South East London. Wearing the labels Morgan, Naf Naf and Oilily on repeat! I loved wearing heather shimmer lipstick with a very pale face makeup, not a good look, but one we all wore together! I loved Garage music in the later 90s and had lots of mix tapes I used to infuriate my parents with.
Yogi Footwear: This season you'll be wearing...
This season due to us all being in lockdown I’ll be favouring a more casual look. High waisted chinos rolled at the hem (Zara have some great ones) with muscle vests/ brightly coloured knits depending on the weather. Luxe workout kit by the upside and Varley (try Tkmaxx as they often stock these amazing brands hugely discounted) and for date night at home I’ll be rocking a dress and my Yogis!
Yogi Footwear: Who are your style heroes? (past and present)
My style heroine , I absolutely love Alice Temperley. She embodies such a freedom and magic in the way she pulls a look together. You just know she has such fun in her outfits! It’s always so effortless.
Yogi Footwear: What fragrance do you wear?
The fragrances I am most connected to are Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir and Chanel Mademoiselle. Pomegranate Noir was an instant love affair as soon as it was released. There had never been anything quite like it, it was utterly unique and I adored it! It was instantly a head turner, whether you liked it or not and I’m still smitten with it today. Mademoiselle is so different to the Jo Malone and I wear it on days I need that little bit of extra help! It’s a powerful perfume and was always gifted to me by my late nana, so I always feel like I have her with me when I spray it on, a little of her gumption. I must also share with you the Zara and Jo Malone collaboration. If you have not yet discovered it I urge you to order a few of the roller balls to try ( £5.99 each) the Amalfi Sunray smells like a beach holiday, all sun drenched linens and lemons.
Yogi Footwear: Which is the best dressed nation?
I always find the Italians so chic when on holiday, equally the French. But I have to say us Brits as we aren’t afraid to mix it up and have fun with it.
