We had the pleasure of speaking to Brit about all things style, art and Yogi...

How would you describe your personal style?

I’d describe my personal style as just ‘me’. I don’t know how else to describe it! It was really born out of my discomfort in my gender identity growing up, wanting to dress as a mix of masculine and feminine and also wanting to show how I felt on the inside creatively. I think you can say a lot with what you wear.

Tell us about the oldest item in your wardrobe.

The oldest item in my wardrobe is a shirt of my Grandpa’s. He was really a suave guy - very fashionable (imagine Boyce from Only Fools and Horses). He used to colour coordinate his wardrobe and I used to laugh - but now it’s a very ‘in’ thing to do! He was ahead of his time! The shirt is very him. It’s a check shirt with lots of beiges and navy’s in it.

Do you have a favourite/ most loved piece in your wardrobe?

My most loved piece is a Polo Ralph Lauren cropped cricket vest! I cannot tell you how perfect the crop is! It’s a lovely piece and goes well with so many things! It’s a great piece to layer with.

How long have you been illustrating and why did you start?

I’ve been illustrating for around 10 years now! I started because I studied Archaeology and there was a module called ‘Archaeological Illustration’ where we would draw the artefacts. We had to buy the fine line illustration pens which I had never used before and I was just hooked!

Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?

The inspiration for my designs comes from poems that I write based on how I feel - feelings are my main inspiration (an unavoidable one really) - I always include a line of one of my poems that I draw into my illustrations. My whole design will revolve around that one feeling. I'm actually currently writing an illustrated poetry book that will come out later this year - it’ll allow people to delve into my illustrations even more deeply.

How do you style your Yogi shoes?

Yogi shoes often have such beautiful, strong colours, so I use their colour as my style inspiration. I’ll often use that colour to pull out similar colours in my outfits or to determine the colour palette of the entire outfit.

What do your Yogi shoes say about you?

That I’m a sucker for a traditional style, done in a modern way!

Do you have any style icons that you follow for fashion advice?

I absolutely adore people who push gender norms with the silhouettes they wear - Frida Kahlo, Autumn De Wilde, Coco Chanel to name a few! I like people who are brave and don’t care what is in trend, what others think about them, and who are inherently creative.

This season you’ll be wearing…

Sandals! And more woven materials like my macrame woven bag, maybe even some linens if the summer allows! Is it even summer without linen?

What does #gofeetfirst mean to you?

Go feet first means, go for it, even if you don’t believe in yourself. Jump and see where you land! You never know, you might surprise yourself!!

We want to say a huge thank you to Brit for taking part in our interview today. Be sure to check out Brit's Instagram here.
