All About: Leather

Yogi Footwear is a premium brand which launched in the 1990s creating handcrafted shoes in Portugal inspired by the unconventional Earth and Roots shoes from the 1970s.

We have enjoyed a cult following as the footwear choice for discerning men who valued style and quality with celebrity fans including David Beckham, Liam and Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller.

In 2017 we relaunched recreating their recessed negative heel silhouettes it was renowned for in their Heritage collection plus new styles for their Classic and Contemporary ranges.

Yogi Footwear uses naturally formed lasts with soft earthy leathers and buttery suedes which are hand sewn in the workshop, eschewing superfluous detailing for a clean and minimal aesthetic.

Leather is just a catchall term – there’s an array of skins, tanning methods, and treatments that distinguish all sorts of types of leather for every occasion. Here’s our breakdown of our 4 different types of leather finishes across our Heritage, Classic and Contemporary ranges.

1. Tumbled Leather

Found predominantly on our Willard and Lawson styles, this type of leather has a texture to it. Easy to clean and very durable, this is a great style to choose if you are wanting something that's got a slightly different feel and look to it than your other leather shoes.

2. Suede Leather

This kind of leather is softer and more pliable than most other leathers. This means it requires a bit more TLC, but for a soft, fuzzy leather, with a napped finish, it’s definitely worth the extra effort!

3. Smooth Leather

This type of leather is reserved mainly for our sport-contemporary styles, the Winstone and the Rufus. Clean-cut lines characterise these styles, with a smooth, wipeable finish making it easy to keep clean.

4. Nubuck Leather

Nubuck is a type of leather which has been sanded or buffed on the grain side, or outside, to give a slight nap of short protein fibers, producing a velvet-like surface. This makes them a very unique pair of leather shoes to add to your wardrobe.
